Vancouver, British Columbia – November 10, 2015 – Sirona Biochem Corp. (TSX-V: SBM) (FSE: ZSB) is pleased to announce the protective effects of new glycoprotein compounds in human fibroblast studies under the stressed conditions of nutrient deprivation, oxidative stress and ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
The family of novel innovative glycoproteins now contains 16 compounds with the lead compounds SBM-TFC-1165 and SBM-TFC-1287 currently being evaluated by a major cosmetic company under a material transfer agreement to ascertain interest in a business relationship. Partnering discussions are also occurring with 3 other major corporations.
The results of these new studies presented at Bio Europe on November 4, have demonstrated a significant improvement in viability under the stressed conditions of nutrient deprivation, UV irradiation and oxidative stress in a dose dependent manner. A copy of the presentation can be downloaded from the website. Furthermore, a strong cell preservation effect was observed despite a differing number of amino acids.
“This is an exciting discovery because it demonstrates Sirona’s ability to develop a pipeline of innovative compounds for anti-aging and regenerative medicine to satisfy the enormous market need” stated Attila Hajdu, Chief Business Development Officer of Sirona Biochem. “The versatility of these different compounds provides us with the leading edge to fulfill specific requirements based on the interests of the major companies that we are in discussions with, regardless if it’s for cosmetic or pharmaceutical applications”, he further stated.
Further studies are ongoing and will continue to assess cell stressors and viability. The compounds may have applications in:
- Anti-aging cosmetic product since 80% of visible aging is directly related to cell death
- Cryopreservation
- Regenerative and protective cosmetic or pharmaceutical product for healing, wound care, hypothermic protection, sunscreen, post burn / radiotherapy
- Regenerative and protective pharmaceutical product against stress response in renal reperfusion and the improvement of engraftment
- Pharmaceutical product used in organ transplantation solution (for example Wisconsin solution)
- Regenerative and preservative product for preservation of T-cells, stem cells, β-islet cells, red blood cells, adipocytes and platelets as well as tissues including reconstituted human epithelial cells, skin explants and cornea
- Preservative for vaccines
The global anti-aging market is forecast to reach up to $345.8 billion US in 2018 from $249.3 billion in 2012. The related market for regenerative medicine, which aims to restore functional ability to tissues and organs, is set to hit $67.6 billion US in 2020.
The anti-aging project is supported by Bpifrance and the region Haute Normandie.
