About Us

In 2008, Sirona Biochem entered into a strategic partnership with TFChem. Under the agreement, TFChem will apply our technology of fluorinated carbohydrate mimics: GlycoMim®, to new compounds in the class of S.G.L.T. inhibitors. S.G.L.T. inhibitors are an exciting, emerging class of compounds that have the potential to enter the blockbuster markets of both diabetes and obesity. GlycoMim® is a fluorinated carbohydrate mimicking technology which stabilizes a molecule by strengthening the bond.

Sirona is conducting preclinical studies on these SGLT inhibitors and plans to advance these preclinical drug candidates to an Investigational New Drug (IND) submission with the FDA. Following this, the Company will seek a development partnership with a major pharmaceutical organization to support continued clinical studies and commercialization.

Market Trends
The prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications will cost at least $376 billion by 2010, according to current estimates from the International Diabetes Federation. By 2030, this is likely to increase to more than $490 billion.

Attempts to combat the epidemic have driven the diabetes drug market to over $26 billion (2009) with an estimated rise of 13% annually. With many new products yet to realise their full potential and the high incidence of diabetes expected in emerging markets, prospects for the sector look strong. There are a number of drivers in the diabetes market that are fuelling growth, such as product innovation, emerging markets and unmet clinical need.
